What is an on-call schedule?

On-call schedule is the calendar of who is on call on which dates, produced by applying a rotation rule to a roster. It maps the abstract roster to actual time so engineers know when to watch the pager.

The schedule typically has a primary and a secondary layer, a timezone, and a handover time. Overrides adjust individual dates for holidays or swaps without editing the roster or the rotation. This keeps the base rotation clean while handling real-world changes.

Schedules are usually exported as an iCal feed so shifts appear in personal calendars.
